Montana’s Workforce Training Grant Program

The Primary Sector Workforce Training Grant (WTG) program is a state-funded program that was moved from the Governor’s Office to the Department of Commerce during the 59th Legislature and is an essential component of Governor Schweitzer’s economic development plan for Montana. There is approximately $3.9 million available annually for this program. The application guidelines are attached below and provide the process and procedures for accessing this state-funded program. This program is targeted to businesses that are creating at least one net, new job that pays at least the lower of the current county average wage or the state current average wage.

The Department is targeting this workforce training grant program to projects that can demonstrate tangible, measurable results involving employees working in the businesses that are receiving assistance. Potential applicants are encouraged to work with the Department’s Regional Development Officer while preparing an application to the program.

It is essential that the guidelines be carefully reviewed. It is highly recommended that potential applicants contact the Department directly by calling Nancy Guccione at 841-2744 or Gary Morehouse at 841-2732 for guidance and funding availability before submitting a formal application. You may also email inquiries to [email protected] . This is especially important due to the limited funding available statewide and because only net new employees hired after a notice of award is issued are eligible .
