Sidney, Montana area continues on-going challenge of attracting businesses

In less than six months, construction begins for a hotel in Williston and, a year later, starts more construction for another one.

“We’ve heard a lot about Williston and the growing economy based on the oil industry, and also the agricultural economy, and we see that there is a need for additional hotels,” Larry Brutger, president and owner of Brutger Equities Inc., said in a Williston Herald article. An 80-unit Candlewood Suites extended-stay hotel will be built, followed by a 125-unit Holiday Inn and Conference Center.

It feels like an ongoing trend as the sister city seems to be enjoying more business growth than Sidney.

Williston Economic Development director Tom Rolfstad says it hasn’t been easy to lure companies. “We struggle to get every new business we can into town,” he said. “It seems some towns get them falling in their lap, but we’ve got to work hard for everything we get.”
