Building their case – Montana Universities request funding from the Legislature

At the beginning of a budget hearing on Friday, Montana State University President Geoff Gamble passed around the Science section of Tuesday’s New York Times http://www.nytimes.com/2009/01/20/science/20cold.html?scp=1&sq=avalanche&st=cse .

The feature article that day was about Ed Adams, an MSU professor studying avalanches in a new lab on the Bozeman campus. Gamble submitted the story to the Joint Appropriations Subcommittee on Education as the opening piece of evidence that MSU is passing muster as a research and education institution.

Area schools argue against budget cuts

Officials with two universities in northcentral Montana argued their case before a Legislative committee Friday asking that the proposed funding cuts to higher education not be executed in order to keep college affordable for students.

UM outlines funding wishes to Legislature

By CHELSI MOY of the Missoulian

University of Montana President George Dennison outlined for state lawmakers on Thursday his wish list for funding at the campuses in the next two years.

Unfortunately, each item requires more money than the state, at least for the time being, appears to have.
