Supercomputer arrives in Butte, Montana The Montana Economic Revitalization and Development Institute

The region’s first supercomputer arrived in Butte Monday morning.

Crews are working "around the clock" to put the machine in place in the basement of the Thornton Building, said Jim Kambich, president of the Montana Economic Revitalization and Development Institute http://www.merdi.org/ , or MERDI.

MERDI has signed a contract with the state to play host to the supercomputer at the Thornton Building, Broadway and Wyoming.

Officials anticipate the computer will generate nearly 140 jobs initially and help stimulate the local economy.

"We’re happy it’s in," Kambich told The Montana Standard on Monday.
