Montana Governor Schweitzer authorizes more environmental projects

Montana’s governor http://governor.mt.gov/ has approved funding for 11 more projects using interest earned on money that Atlantic Richfield Co. paid the state for industrial damage to natural resources in southwestern part of the state.

The projects totaling $13.6 million include work on a Silver Bow Creek greenway, a study of Georgetown Lake and Montana Tech work on native-plant diversity.

In a statement released Tuesday, Gov. Brian Schweitzer said the projects that have his final approval offer "substantial, long-lasting improvements to fisheries, wildlife, public drinking-water systems and outdoor recreation opportunities. In addition, this investment will provide jobs and boost Montana’s restoration economy."
