Inside Entrepreneurship: Attorney can help keep secrets

Q: Can confidentiality agreements really protect smaller companies? I expect to talk with a large corporation about some technology my company has recently developed. I haven’t yet started the patenting process, primarily because of cost. I could pitch the company as an investor or potentially as a licensing partner. Also, should I wait to pitch this corporation until after I’ve filed a patent application?
