Bozeman schools seek to raise scores for special-ed kids

Bozeman’s special-education students score lower on state reading and math tests than other students, and they tend to fall farther behind the older they get, so the Bozeman School District is taking a new approach to raise the students’ academic skills.

Pulling special-ed kids out of regular classrooms and having them learn at a slower pace and at a lower level isn’t always successful, Chad Berg, the school district’s new special education director, recently explained to the School Board.

It may be less frustrating for students, but they don’t learn as much, Berg said.
