Technology conference for educators and business professionals in Havre this month

Educators and business professionals who want to learn more about technology
and how to apply it in their careers should plan to attend Northern Montana
Techspo in Havre.

The technology conference is set for March 22 and 23. The event will include
hands-on workshops, roundtable discussions and expert panels, along with
vendor exhibits. The cost is $25 per day.

Conference activities will take place at the Montana State University-Northern
MIRROR Center on March 22. On March 23, the conference will be held at Havre
High School.

The conference will begin with a keynote address at 9 a.m. March 22 by Rick
Smyre, the founder and president of Communities of the Future, an evolving
network of people and organizations throughout the U.S. and other countries that
are collaborating to develop new concepts of governance, economic development
and education.

Teachers can learn how to integrate the Internet into curriculum during a
presentation from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. by Tom Snyder Productions.

Other events will include workshops on personal data assistants and Microsoft
Outlook, a teacher education roundtable and more.

At 9 a.m. on March 23 Andrew Michael Cohill, director of the Blacksburg
Electronic Village, will address conference attendees. Cohill recently advised
Hewlett-Packard on their $15 million Digital Village initiative.

Teachers who have just one computer in their classroom can learn to use it
more effectively at a workshop presented by Tom Snyder Productions from 9
a.m. to 3 p.m. March 23.

Techspo is sponsored by Havre Public Schools, Bear Paw Development Corp.,
MSU Northern, Preparing Teachers for Tomorrow’s Technology, Montana
Cooperative Development Center, Western Education Inc., the Small Business
Development Center, the Havre Area Chamber of Commerce and Students in
Free Enterprise.

Along with the conference, a free training session for teachers and trainers to
learn more about Internet-based lesson plans will be presented by the
MarcoPolo Professional Development Program. The session will be held from 9
a.m. to 4 p.m. March 22 at the MSU Northern’s MIRROR Center.

Tickets for the March 23 recognition banquet are $15 for those registering for
Techspo. Tickets for those attending the banquet but not the technology
conference are $25.
