Secretary of the Interior, Dirk Kempthorne, recently announced the appointment of Dick Clark, State of Montana Chief Information Officer http://itsd.mt.gov/default.mcpx , to represent all 50 states on a national board. Clark, originally from Harve, will serve on the National Geospatial Advisory Committee as it works to develop the use of digital geographic information tools and services for the nation.

"Mr. Clark’s appointment to this national board recognizes his hard work and dedication to the efficient use of geographic information systems (GIS) in Montana," said Janet R. Kelly, Director of the Montana Department of Administration. "Under his leadership, Montana has become a national leader in the use of digital information to describe geography."

Montana citizens benefit from the use of geospatial information when it supplies images on topics such as drought conditions, wildfires, subdivision development, emergency planning, wildlife management, water rights, and property ownership.

Clark has worked for the State of Montana for 33 years and has been the State’s Chief Information Officer for the last three years. Clark has been the driving force behind the appointment of a State Geographic Information Officer and the establishment of the Montana Base Map Service Center.
