South Dakota universities encouraged to transfer ideas into marketplace. Promise of research subject of summit

As South Dakota’s university and private research infrastructure grows, an office at South Dakota State University is prepared to help move the future fruits of research into the marketplace.

Technology transfer is the process of taking intellectual property and licensing it for commercial use. It’s an instrumental part of how research can fuel economic development, SDSU president David Chicoine said.

"We cannot let any discovery go unattended that could potentially go to commercialization," Chicoine told a group gathered Wednesday in Sioux Falls for the third annual conference of the South Dakota Biotech Association http://www.sdbio.org/ .
