Montana State Superintendent Linda McCulloch Supports Community Mentoring Project

State Superintendent Linda McCulloch will help kickoff a yearlong community mentoring project today, September 8, at 1:30 PM in the Capital High School cafeteria.

Superintendent McCulloch will join project founder Capital High School Teacher Kelly Morand in launching the project.

"I am proud to support such a wonderful youth mentoring project," said Superintendent McCulloch. "Together, these Montana students are taking the initiative to make a difference in their community by donating time and energy to some of Helena’s most cherished organizations."

Morand’s community service project gathers high school junior and senior Link Crew mentors and connects them with a group of at-risk freshman. Together, the mentors and mentees will complete one community service project each month of the school year.

Today, the group will begin their first project by building new friendships with the senior citizens from The Shelby House assisted living facility.

"This intergenerational connection between the youth and the residents at The Shelby House will have a positive impact on the lives of everyone involved," said Superintendent McCulloch. "It is exciting to know our youth are capable of such great achievements."

Morand is the 2005 Milken Award winner and received a grant from the Milken Family Foundation to fund the mentoring project.
