University of Montana Disability Services To Host Delegation From Japan

A delegation of researchers, service providers and a special education teacher from Japan will visit The University of Montana Aug. 5-6 to study the University’s support system for individuals with print disabilities.

Led by Hiroshi Kawamura, president of DAISY Consortium http://www.daisy.org/ , the delegation is part of an international comparative study. At the completion of the study, the delegation will develop and submit a policy proposal regarding individuals with print disabilities to the Japanese government.

During their stay in Missoula, the delegation will visit with the Alliance for Disability and Students at UM and various campus departments, including Disability Services, the Rural Institute, the Maureen and Mike Mansfield Library and Continuing Education.

The group also will meet with Missoula County Public Schools Superintendent Alex Apostle, Superintendent Steve Gettle of the Montana School for the Deaf and Blind, Opportunity Resources, Montana Vocational Rehabilitation Services and Veterans Affairs Vocational Rehabilitation.
