Starting up: Recession can be good for start-ups

It was a rough January. The stock market was in the tank, a financial crisis rocked the nation, and recession was on the lips of every presidential candidate – each touting plans to bolster a faltering economy. President Bush introduced a stimulus package.
But that wasn’t this January. It was 1988, the year I opened my first business, a public relations agency in Sacramento, Calif.
That was then, this is now. And again I am launching a business – another public relations firm – in a recessionary economy.
Am I nuts?
