Glenn Vaughn, of Glenn Vaughn Restoration Services of Post Falls, Idaho, remembers one special car

When a teenaged Glenn Vaughn first laid eyes on the car that would change his life, it didn’t look like much.

Twice as old as he was, the 1934 Packard was in pieces. The black paint was peeled, the interior was shredded, and the wood top was done for. It looked like a charity case fit only to be hauled away. Yet, somewhere in that shattered hulk, Glenn’s father saw a rare original worth saving.

The year was 1965, Kenneth Vaughn was a businessman in North Hollywood, California. Although he loved classic cars, he probably had no business taking this one under his wing. He didn’t know it, but all the big names in car restoration had looked at this particular car already. And one by one, all of them had shaken their heads and walked away. Too far gone. Beyond repair. Not worth the time or the trouble.
