Electronic archive system in the works for Missoula City Government

A new software program that archives electronic documents – e-mail, for starters – is expected to be up and running for the city of Missoula in the next several weeks, information technology director Carl Horton said Wednesday.

The program, which costs $27,800, is part of a technology and Web site upgrade that city officials say will dramatically cut down the time and cost to fill citizen requests for e-mail records.

“I’m pleased that Carl brought it to fruition, and I think it’s really wonderful,” said city clerk Marty Rehbein, who handles record retention for the city.

Mayor John Engen said the program is part of a Web site renovation and “technology extravaganza” taking place at City Hall, and the people of Missoula will benefit.
