SBA’s 8(a) connects minority -owned business
December 23, 2007 /
Harry Barnes was able to get some help when he launched his Browning based company, Barnes Construction Co.
A member of the Blackfeet Tribe, Barnes registered with the Small Business Administration’s 8(a) program, which connects minority-owned businesses with federal contractors.
The federal government requires its agencies to direct part of their contracts to minority-owned business. There are similar programs for businesses owned by women and veterans as well as those located in Historically Underutilized Business zones.
