DECA needs Business Leaders to serve as judges for high school entrepreneurship contest. Can you help please?

The Fairmont conference (Sunday-Tuesday, December 2-4) is essentially an entrepreneurship conference, with various speakers and business tours combined with the opportunity/requirement for students to work on their competency-based, industry-specific marketing and management competitive events.

We’ve scheduled 12:45-4:15 on Sunday, December 2 as time for students to work with "judges" on their role play events. These role plays are situation/problem-based, requiring students to consider a variety of potential options (and the consequences of each option), prior to making a recommendation and defending their option(s) as the best possible solution to the situation presented. Attached are two sample role plays (one in Sports and Entertainment Marketing, and one in Hotel and Lodging Management), to give you an idea of what is expected of students. Interested judges would be given the case information in advance in order to familiarize themselves with the specific event situations.

Individual role play events include: Accounting Applications, Apparel and Accessories Marketing, Automotive Services Marketing, Business Services Marketing, Food Marketing, Hotel and Lodging Management, Marketing Management, Quick Serve Restaurant Management, Restaurant and Food Service Management, Retail Merchandising, and Sports and Entertainment Marketing.

Management team decision making events include: Business Law and Ethics, Buying and Merchandising, Financial Analysis, Hospitality Services, Internet Marketing, Sports and Entertainment Marketing, and Travel and Tourism Marketing.

As we are early in the process, students will not have completed their events; rather, they will be looking to judges to provide input, guidance, and feedback. In essence, most students will have "rough draft" projects at this point and will utilize this feedback as part of the project revision process.

Judges would have to provide their own transportation to/from Fairmont Hot Springs on December 2, although Sentinel DECA will provide lunch to all judges at 12:00 on Sunday. We expect have things wrapped up by 4:15.

I appreciate your willingness to assist us in our efforts to recruit professional judges. Sentinel has an outstanding DECA chapter, largely because of tremendous community support we receive. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask!
