Online university offering scholarships to Montana’s current and future teachers

Ravalli County encompasses seven of Montana’s most rural school districts. The nation, including Montana, is suffering from a lack of qualified rural teachers, specifically in science and math. A recent grant awarded to Western Governors University in Salt Lake City, Utah is hoping to change that.

The grant was awarded to the Western Governors University from the U.S. Department of Labor and Industry for financial, academic and clinical support for rural teacher candidates. The donated grant will allow WGU to offer $7,500 scholarships to qualified individuals in rural areas of Montana. The $7,500 scholarship will be credited to the scholarship winners in $1,500 increments.
