Butte school district cutting teachers. Reaches into the tenured teaching ranks for the first time since the 1980s

The Butte school board on Thursday approved a staff reduction that dips into the tenured teaching ranks for the first time since the 1980s.
A combination of fewer students and tighter budgets prompted trustees to approve a staffing plan that will cut nine teaching positions overall, six clerical workers, two maintenance jobs and three monitors.
