Montana Tech Regional Science and Engineering Fair Results

The Division I Montana Tech Regional Science and Engineering Fair was held on Montana Tech’s campus today. 48 students faired projects from 6 high schools in Montana. “This was the lowest attendance we have seen at the high school fair in over a decade. Although it was a bit disappointing not to have more students, the quality of work by those competing was phenomenal. We awarded 57 prizes valued at over $10,000 and every student was well deserving of their accolades!” reported Annette Kankelborg, the Co-Director of the fair.

The best performing school trophy was awarded to Big Sky High School from Missoula, lead by teacher Mr. Jim Harkins. Nine of the ten students who competed earned medals.

The fair grants 5 Grand Prizes, which include all expense paid trip to compete at the International Science and Engineering Fair, to be held in Albuquerque, NM on May 13-18, 2007. The Grand Prize winners are;

· Jade Northrop, Ennis High School

· Savannah Croy, Ennis High School,

· Amy Smith, Big Sky High School,

· Christopher Casas, Big Sky High School

· Will Fletcher, Hellgate High School.

“Will Fletcher from Hellgate High School impressed the judges immensely, earning the top ranking project for the fair as well as three other awards.” Reports Bernie Phelps, the co-director of the fair.

Montana Tech is expecting an additional 500 elementary and middle school aged students to attend the Division II fair next Tuesday, March 6, 2007. Full results from the high school fair can be found on Tech’s web site shortly.
