Girls’ science and math conference seeks presenters, sponsors for "Expanding Your Horizons" Program.

Women who work in science and math are needed as presenters for an April 14 conference at Montana State University that introduces girls in grades 6, 7 and 8 to science and math careers.

The conference, called Expanding Your Horizons http://www.expandingyourhorizons.org/ , also seeks corporate and individual supporters who can give monetary or in-kind donations so the registration fee can remain low enough for all girls to attend.

Expanding Your Horizons is a national program that is hosted locally by MSU’s Extended University outreach program. The conference can accept 192 girls, and regularly fills to capacity. Last year, girls from all around Montana attended, and participated in activities ranging from assembling robots to designing a skyscraper to analyzing fossils.

"There are many ways community members can participate," said Debbie Albin of MSU Extended University. "Be a presenter, serve on the planning committee, encourage your company or department to support the program, and encourage all middle-school girls you know to attend." Albin added that female undergraduate students at MSU serve as group leaders throughout the day.
