Mr. Shriber couldn’t be reached for comment. He had been held up to widespread online ridicule when the "hackers" strung him along with silly requests, including demanding photos of squirrels to "prove his identity," and posted all his e-mails – including squirrel photos he submitted – on the Internet.

A transcript of all 22 e-mails exchanged is posted on the Web site http://www.attrition.org.

A Texas Christian University graduate who became an Internet joke when he tried to hire computer hackers to boost his transcript has been unmasked as a top aide to a Montana congressman.

The communications director for Rep. Denny Rehberg, R-Mont., has been fired for trying to have the director’s college record inflated by people he believed were computer hackers, Rehberg’s chief of staff said Friday.
