The Education and Economic Development Act

The Education and Economic Development Act — became law in South Carolina in 2005. Its goals include making education more relevant to students by sparking interest in careers at an earlier age, decreasing dropout rates and providing a seamless transition from elementary to middle to high school to college and/or the work force.

Wyoming to expand college planning for middle schoolers

Some eighth graders’ parents are already bugging them to take challenging high school classes, consider a career and think about what college they’ll attend five years from now.

"Research shows that young people with some sort of a plan — and it might not be the plan they end up pursuing — they’re more likely to succeed in high school and graduate high school," Zierden said.
