Industrial Manufacturing tour comes to Helena. Spika Welding and Manufacturing

Tom Spika is president of Spika Welding and Manufacturing http://www.spikawelding.com , a small company near Lewistown that manufactures external load equipment for military helicopters, among other things. It may be a unique manufacturing niche, but as a businessman, Spika faces the same problem as many across Montana: “It’s difficult to find the people that have the fundamental skills to do what we’re doing.”

Hoping to change that, Spika was one of dozens of manufacturers who took part in a tour of the industrial arts programs at UM-Helena College of Technology as part of the Montana Manufacturing Conference, hosted this week by the Montana Manufacturing Extension Center http://www.mtmanufacturingcenter.com/ .
