Wall Street Journal recognizes Boise tech company for innovation. PakSense ‘Smart Label’ monitors temperatures of products during shipping

A Boise company was among 49 companies recognized this month in the Wall Street Journal’s 2006 Technology Innovation Awards contest.

PakSense http://www.paksense.com/ , 5256 Fairview Ave., was named a runner-up in the Technology Design category for its signature product — a temperature-monitoring label used in the shipment of food products. PakSense was second to Seagate Technology, one of the nation’s leading hard-drive manufacturers with $9 billion a year in revenues.

Not a bad showing for a company that is only 2 years old and shares space in a 1970s-era strip mall with neighbors like a ballroom dance studio, a Mexican restaurant and a local Internet service provider.

PakSense is also one of the 22 finalists in the first Stoel Rives Idaho Innovation Awards program.

Winners will be announced at a luncheon Tuesday at the Boise Centre on The Grove. The luncheon is in conjunction with the Intermountain Venture Forum that will be held from Tuesday and Wednesday at the same location.

The awards will recognize innovations in eight categories — everything from agriculture bioscience to computer software. More information is available at http://www.stoel.com/innovation.
