Hamilton’s hotspots

Even though fire season is over, the Bitterroot Valley is still full of hotspots.

But these hotspots aren’t smoldering, and they pose no danger to the forest. In fact, they’re inside; and it’s highly unlikely to see an action-ready firefighter within a three-mile radius.

Instead, you’ll find people like Mark Behnke camped out at a table with his laptop.

Behnke, and lots of others like him, have discovered an obscure aspect of Hamilton that’s just starting to become apparent: Hamilton is hot.

Wireless Internet (Wi-Fi) access points, known as “hotspots,” are prevalent downtown – something of a phenomenon in a city of less than 5,000 residents.
