Economic development consortium launching $100,000 business plan competition
An economic development consortium is putting up $100,000 for a competition "to ignite the entrepreneurial spirit in Central New York," officials announced Wednesday.
The EssentialConnections.org Emerging Business Competition is open to emerging and small businesses with less than $2.5 million in revenues in 12 upstate counties, said Allen Naples, president of the Syracuse Division of M&T Bank, the contest’s chief sponsor.
A separate $2,500 prize also will be given for the best individual business idea. That competition is open to anyone in the region, including high school and college students, Naples said.
"Our region has a history of innovation and creativity. We’re looking to rekindle that mentality, and tap our collective brainpower to uncover the next big entrepreneurial success story," Naples said.
