Commercials to offer University of Montana exposure

Witness a commercial-in-the-making, and learn in short order why it’s called a “production.”

There’s the director, the producer, the first assistant director, wardrobe people, the grips, the gaffer, electricians, the talent and the talent’s handlers.

It’s a behemoth undertaking that has – along with its staff – an endless assortment of gear, including the dolly, the boom, the crane and cameras by the truckload.

On Thursday, all of those folks and their equipment were on the banks of the Bitterroot River to capture the essence of Ken Dial’s bird research and the University of Montana professor’s passion for science.

The result will be a 60-second film that will air statewide on cable television over the next three weeks as part of a new UM marketing campaign, said Jim Foley, the university’s executive vice president.
