Change is bustin’ out all over in Winifred, Montana. Large new hangar and city center are among many new additions to Winifred

Like phoenix rising from the ashes, Winifred continues to emerge from the rubble of its lost years during the last years of the 20th century.

At one time, Winifred was a thriving village with a variety of stores. According to Ken Byerly’s “Central Montana’s Communities . . .,” during the homestead era which ended in 1920, Winifred served 17 townships where an estimated 2,448 families lived.

By 1974, when Byerly wrote his Winifred story, there were 25 families in the same area.
