A fuel cell technology company plans new plant in Idaho. Hawaii-based company looks at unnamed sites along Snake River

A fuel cell technology company based in Hawaii plans to open a $250 million production plant in southern Idaho.

Hoku Scientific Inc. http://www.hokuscientific.com/ announced this week that it would build the plant to house two new businesses — Hoku Solar and Hoku Materials — somewhere along the Snake River in southern Idaho because the state offers tax incentives and low-cost electricity.

The company likely will bring about 300 employees when it opens in 2008, a spokesman for Gov. Jim Risch said.

"Idaho is a very attractive place for us to expand our business, and we look forward to contributing to Idaho’s growing and diversified economy," said Dustin Shindo, Hoku Scientific’s chairman, president and chief executive officer, in a statement.
