Employers in Sheridan, Wyoming seek help from foreign workers

Ron Spence would like to hire local residents to work at the Best Western Sheridan Center.

But, the motel manager said, "getting qualified employees is more difficult than getting guests."

Spence and a number of hoteliers, restaurant owners and managers and fast-food establishments in the Sheridan area are turning to other countries for help.

Part of the reason for the shortage, Spence and others speculate, is the low unemployment rate across Wyoming. The jobless rate has been hovering at 3 percent or lower for a year or more.
