Reforming Education Could Reduce Crime and $1.3 Billion in Prison Expenses

Education attainment impacts crime prevention tremendously, particularly graduating from high school. “Reforming the nation’s high schools could potentially increase the number of graduates and reduce the nation’s crime related costs and add billions of dollars to the economy through additional wages,” according to a new Alliance for Excellent Education (All4ed) brief.

By increasing male high school graduation rates by just five percent, the South, each year, would save taxpayers $1.3 billion in prison expenses, court operating budgets and other crime related costs. The All4ed brief, Saving Futures, Saving Dollars:

The Impact of Education on Crime Reduction and Earnings, is available at: http://www.all4ed.org/publications/SavingFutures.pdf
