Multi-million dollar animal bioscience complex in the works at Montana State University

Plans are in the works for the addition of a new multi-million dollar center of excellence on the Montana State University campus in Bozeman, Mont.

Already a leader in seed stock cattle, Montana will gain added value to its cattle industry through the research and education provided in the new Animal Bioscience Complex. Scheduled to begin construction in 2008, supporters are now working on raising the funds necessary for completion of the complex.

“This is probably a once in a 100-year opportunity for the beef cattle industry and MSU to take the beef industry to a new plateau using genomics,” explained Jim Peterson, interim associate dean for outreach and development.

The Animal Bioscience Complex will include a $12 million teaching and outreach facility, which will be privately funded, and a $22 million USDA-ARS (Agriculture Research Services) research building, which will be federally funded.
