Report: Immigration not taking jobs in Montana. Filling the gap. Flathead businesses bring in foreign workers

Immigration does not appear to have affected employment rates of native-born workers in Wyoming and Montana over the last 15 years, according to a recent study.

In fact, Wyoming rose in the rankings of states with the highest native-born employment rates even as its immigrant population growth from 2000 to 2004 was above average, the study by the Pew Hispanic Center said.

The study also found that nationwide, there was no apparent link between immigration rates and the job prospects for native-born Americans.

”As a result, it is not possible to state with certainty whether the inflow of foreign-born workers has hurt or helped the employment outlook for native-born workers” nationwide, the report said.

However, the report did find wide variations in employment trends from state to state and said immigration may have harmed job prospects for native-born Americans in 23 states.
