From Maine to Montana

Maine, the current home of Brett Doney, the guy hired last week to lead the Great Falls Development Authority, has some things in common with Montana.

Both are rural states, with lots of small communities. Norway, Maine, where Enterprise Maine, Doney’s current employer, has an office, has a population of 4,611.

The community’s name is derived from "norage," apparently an Indian term for "falls."

But there are plenty of differences, as one might suspect. It was just 72 degrees in Norway on the day it hit 98 in Great Falls last week. At 568 feet, the town’s elevation is about 2,700 feet lower than Great Falls. And it’s safe to conclude that southwest Maine has more trees.
