Idaho advisory council pushes $50 million science and technology package for high-tech industries

Idaho officials say more high-speed Internet would help state compete for new businesses

Members of the Governor’s Science and Technology Advisory Council say Idaho officials need to make high-speed Internet more available so that the state can better compete for new businesses and offer students better educational opportunities.

"It’s infrastructure that’s just as important as roads and health care," Robin Woods, president of Alturas Analytics of Moscow, told The Spokesman-Review.

The advisory council met Tuesday to work on a $50 million science and technology package it plans to give to Idaho lawmakers at the next legislative session.

The council wants lawmakers to allocate the money to pay for projects it says will help improve Idaho’s economy and move it away, as Woods put it, from a place known for "potatoes and fly fishing."
