DirecTV up and running in Missoula, MT

From the outside, the new DirecTV call center in Missoula looks like many other buildings in the final stages of construction. From the inside, however, it looks like the Silicon Valley during its dot-com heyday – with a Montana twist.

The 70,000-square-foot building, once completed, will boast an on-site workout facility, a game room, a telephone bank for employees who don’t carry cell phones, two cyber-cafes, a lactation room for new mothers, a learning lab – complete with the latest in television technology and video game systems – and a seating area decorated with leather couches, a fireplace and an enormous chandelier made of antlers.

“It really simulates the home environment,” said Ed Simon, DirecTV’s vice president for administration and facilities, while touring the call center.

The new call center is officially up and running, even as work on the property continues. It will receive its first live call Thursday at 9 a.m., marking the culmination of months’ worth of construction and weeks of employee training.
