Idaho Science & Technology Council meets

The Governor’s Science & Technology Advisory Council will consider a proposed $50 million science and technology initiative at its quarterly meeting Tuesday in Post Falls.

The council, which advises the governor on policy issues and infrastructure needs for the state’s technology industry, will hear presentations on the components of the proposed legislative issues for the 2007 session.

At a session earlier this year, the council called for a $50 million investment in programs and infrastructure to stimulate the industry. In addition to increasing high school mathematics and science standards and creating a statewide community college system, which are being promoted by other interests as well, the package included expansive tax credits for venture capitalists and matching grants to encourage technological research, as well as creation of a state Department of Science and Technology.

The meeting will be web cast and available at http://technology.idaho.gov. An archived recording of the event will be available afterwards.
