Good judgment, intuition aren’t enough when hiring

I have always prided myself on being a good judge of people and yet I often end up hiring the wrong people. I have read books and taken workshops on developing my intuition as a guide in making good decisions. So far nothing has helped me to improve my ability for hiring good people. What am I doing wrong? —Alicia B.

Hiring the right people is one of the most critical elements in the success of a company. This important decision should not be left only to your "good judgment" of people or your intuition.

Your company is only as good as its employees. How you handle hiring people and how they perform will determine the success or failure of your operation. So, if you want to enjoy business success, a step-by-step approach to hiring should be included along with your personal judgment skills and intuition.

Let me share a story about what can happen when only "good judgment" is applied. Several years ago, Art, my husband, kept complaining of stomach discomfort. I suggested he make an appointment to see a doctor.
