The Qwest Foundation Awards "MAPS: Media Arts in the Public Schools" a grant to further its program that will be offered to other school districts throughout Montana in the fall of 2007.

The Qwest Foundation http://www.qwest.com/about/company/community/foundation/ today announced the award of a $10,000 grant to MAPS: Media Arts in the Public Schools http://www.mediarts.org . The Qwest Foundation’s core principle is that investing in people and communities provides lasting value for the future. The Qwest Foundation awards grants to community-based programs that generate high-impact and measurable results, focusing on K-12 education and economic development.

In announcing the grant, Rick Hays, Qwest President of Montana said: "Qwest is committed to making a difference in the communities we serve. We have found throughout our history that education is one of the best ways to achieve that and particularly through innovative programs such as the Media Arts in the Public Schools. It’s a program that is making a difference in students’ education."

As MAPS and its pilot program in Corvallis enter its third year, the media arts curriculum will be offered to other school districts throughout Montana in the fall of 2007. The initial expansion will be to five new schools and those locations will be set early next year.

“By teaching our students skills that can lead to good jobs, we’re investing in their future,” says MAPS President and Teacher, Peter Rosten. “And it’s immensely gratifying that a Fortune 500 company like Qwest has found MAPS to be worthy of investment.”
