Project Vote Smart of Philipsburg, MT to expand at the University of Arizona. U of M apparently not interested in assisting with expansion plans.

A well-known voter education group based in Philipsburg, Mont., said Thursday it may expand its operations by opening a new location in Arizona, rather than growing in Montana.

Project Vote Smart http://www.vote-smart.org/index.htm, which has been located in Philipsburg since 1999, said it is negotiating with the University of Arizona in Tucson. The University of Montana expressed no interest in helping with expansion in Montana, said Vote Smart director Richard Kimball.

Kimball and others started Project Vote Smart in 1992 to provide information on candidates, including surveys, voting records, campaign speeches and ratings from special interest groups. It currently has about 74 employees and volunteers working in Philipsburg and a $1.5 million annual budget.
