Group seeks support for Bitterroot Valley college

Although it’s still just a concept, the plan for a public community college in the Bitterroot Valley is starting to gain steam.

If the project moves full speed ahead, voters will weigh in on the matter next year.

Since the formation of the Bitterroot Valley Community College Community Exploratory Committee last February, the group has extensively researched what it takes to form a community college and whether there is a need for one in Ravalli County. Victoria Clark, the group’s spokeswoman, continues to give PowerPoint presentations throughout Ravalli County on forming the community college.

Group members recently announced their plan to gather signatures during this fall’s general election. Roughly 5,600 signatures, or 20 percent of Ravalli County’s registered voters, are needed for a petition to the Montana Board of Regents requesting an election for the organization of the college.
