Sunburst, Montana High School sends seven students to Intel science fair

Sunburst, Montana may be in the Hi-Line hinterlands, but it’s the center of the science universe.

The small high school sent seven science stars to the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair in Indianapolis, Ind.

Just 16 high school students made up Montana’s team, which competed against nearly 1,500 students from all 50 states and 47 foreign countries. The nine other students on the team came from larger schools including Billings Skyview, Missoula Hellgate, Butte High and Malta High.

In the 42 years Larry Fauque has been teaching science in Sunburst, the school has sent students to the competition 26 times.
