A new study—Knowledge Filter and Economic Growth: The Role of Scientist Entrepreneurship—examines the prevalence and determinants of the commercialization of research by the top 20 percent of university scientists funded by grants from the National Cancer Institute.

The study "highlights the extent to which additional commercialization of research takes place, suggesting that the contribution of universities to U.S. innovation and ultimately economic growth may be greater than had previously been believed." The Kauffman Foundation-sponsored study is available at: http://www.kauffman.org/pdf/scientist_entrepreneurs_audretsch.pdf
