Washington Technology Center – 2006 Innovation Index –
Twelve state regions were reviewed: Bellingham, Bremerton, Ellensburg, North Central, Olympia, Pullman, Seattle, Spokane, Tacoma, Tri-Cities, Vancouver and Yakima.
To compare and contrast technology trends in Washington’s communities, the following factors were examined: 1) Innovation – patent activity and new company creation; 2) Competitiveness – regional technology job levels and industry growth trends; 3) Growth – technology job growth and average technology job wages; 4) Financial Capacity – SBIR/STTR awards and private placements; 5) Human Potential – high school graduation rates and math/science proficiency levels; and 6) Quality of Life – Housing affordability and crime rates.
