MIT $100K Entrepreneurship Competition names top winners. Top prize: coating technology for catheter use

A coating technology and developmental architectural concept were awarded grand prizes, securing $30,000 as startup money, during the MIT $100K Entrepreneurship Competition awards ceremony held Thursday evening at MIT.

SteriCoat Inc. won the Business Venture Grand Prize for developing a coating technology which significantly reduces the incident of catheter associated infections by preventing the formation of bacterial "biofilms" and killing bacterial invaders. SteriCoat’s technology allows coating of devices of virtually any size, shape or material. Its initial target market is central venous catheters, which access the patient’s bloodstream directly.
