Selling wares on The Virtual Frontier. Web offers remote artisans a market

There are lots of artists and craftsmen living in the remote counties of northeastern Washington, but not a lot of customers.

That’s the reason for The Virtual Frontier, a new project that seeks to connect rural artisans with a much larger pool of customers.

It’s for people such as Gregg Caudell, who creates $10,000 paintings but has a limited market in Keller, a wide spot on the road near the Columbia River.

"I’m hoping I can reach a far wider audience," Caudell said.

The centerpiece of The Virtual Frontier is http://www.shopthefrontier.org It’s one of many Web sites from rural areas. What makes this one different, Caudell said, is that plenty of money is poured into promotion, to raise the profile and get more hits.
