MYTOPO.COM Moves from Red Lodge to Billings, Montana. -MYTOPO also partners with the U.S. Adventure Racing Association

MyTopo.com, http://www.mytopo.com a leading online provider of navigation-ready maps, has moved its offices from One South Broadway in Red Lodge, Montana to One South Broadway in Billings, Montana. By pure coincidence, the company’s street address stayed the same in the move.

MyTopo.com was founded by Tom Kohley of Red Lodge, and Kevin Toohill, of Billings. Tom left the company to pursue other interests, and with Kevin managing all day-to-day operations, it made sense to relocate the business to Billings. The company employs four full-time people, two from Billings, one from Roberts and one from Red Lodge.

The company is occupying the west side of a building renovated by Randy Hafer of High Plains Architects. “I admire Randy’s endeavor to bring into modern use some of the older buildings in the downtown core of Billings,” said Kevin Toohill. “In this building we have all the bandwidth we need, plus the added bonus of high ceilings, beautiful woodwork, and lots of tall windows.”

“MyTopo.com is an Internet-based company that allows people to center any place in the United States on a navigation-ready topographic or aerial photo map. The customer can choose the map’s size (18’ x 24”, 24” x 36”, or 36” x 48”), scale (1:6000 up to 1:25,000), navigation grid (UTM, LAT/LON or MGRS), and whether they would like it printed on waterproof, tear-resistant paper for outdoor use; glossy paper for framing; or with a full seal laminate for use with a dry erase marker. The customer can further personalize the map with a name and title. MyTopo.com prints and ships the maps within 24 hours. The maps range in price from $9.95 to $29.95.

The company also offers an annual subscription service that allows people to use a set of mapping tools to annotate maps with their own trails and text, outline areas, measure acreage, and upload and download GPS waypoints. Subscribers can print 8.5” and 11” and 11” x 17” navigation-ready maps featuring their own annotations, or download them for use in other programs. This service is available via http://www.mapcard.com for $19.95.

Many of the largest outdoor recreation websites resell MyTopo maps, including Cabelas.com, Remington.com; Realtree.com, National Wild Turkey Federation, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, and many more. MyTopo brands its maps with the partner’s logo and ships the branded map to the customer.

The company is also one of the leading map providers for the fast-growing sport called adventure racing, and this week was named as official sponsor of the US Adventure Racing Association. Adventure racing requires athletes to navigate through incredibly difficult terrain often using mountain climbing, biking, kayaking and hiking skills combined over a several day timeframe.
