Victor, Montana School Board adopts 4-day school week

After several months of discussion, the Victor School Board unanimously approved a four-day school week to begin next fall.

Superintendent Orville Getz pitched the idea of a shortened school week to trustees last October, believing it would increase attendance and save the district money. Trustees, school officials and parents researched the idea of giving students and teachers Fridays off in exchange for longer school days Monday through Thursday before Tuesday’s decision.

Next year, school days will begin at 8 a.m. instead of 8:30 a.m. and will let out at 4:15 p.m. instead of 3:15 p.m.

Monday’s board decision gave Getz and his administrative staff the go-ahead to implement the truncated school week, making Victor the first school district in the state to reduce the number of school days in a year.
