All adults should return to high school

This is the first year under the No Child Left Behind Act that every public-school student from the third through eighth grades and from one year in high school must take a standardized achievement test to answer President Bush’s ringing challenge: “Is our children learning?” There have been stories about schools abolishing recess to have more time to prep the little scholars for these mandatory tests. More math, more science, more composition, more foreign languages from countries we might want to invade some day.

Talk about pressure. If the students do poorly, they tarnish their school, embarrass their hometown, scare off industries that might move to their state and let down the president of the United States, because it’s his law, and their country, and because they’ll be compared with those little Goody Two-shoes in Denmark.
